State Bicycle Facilities and Pedestrian Walkways Plan
Washington’s Statewide Goal is to increase bicycling and walking while reducing injuries and deaths. This plan, created by Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), sets a goal of decreasing collisions by five percent per year for the next 20 years, while doubling the amount of biking and walking. This Plan also establishes objectives and performance measures in each of the State’s five transportation policy areas.

"Our Nations Highways 2008"
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has published the latest edition of a compilation of facts and figures about the U.S. Highway System. The report, which is based on 2006 data, includes sections on highway infrastructure; highway travel; vehicles; drivers; motor fuel; funding and expenditures; and highway conditions, performance, and safety.

SIRTPO Joint Policy Board Meeting
The fall meeting of the Skagit/Island Regional Transportation Planning Organization (SIRTPO) will be October 22, 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Skagit Station.

Conway to Cook Master Plan
Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has published the final draft of their in-depth study of the I-5 corridor between the exits at Conway and Cook, a corridor which encompasses Mount Vernon and Burlington.

Walking & Trail Guide is posted online!
The Active Community Taskforce, with help from Skagit County and sponsors, has put together a Walking & Trail Map for Skagit County.  It is ready for distribution and we hope you get a copy.

North Sound Travel Survey
Regional transportation planners, working on behalf of Whatcom, Skagit and Island Counties, are putting together a new plan for guiding future growth and transportation investment in the north Puget Sound region.  Skagit Council of Governments (SCOG) is helping to put this Survey on.  More information can be found at the Survey's website.
