The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has announced a schedule for overnight closures to rehabilitate the Deception Pass and Canoe Pass bridge decks. Construction is scheduled to begin 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 12, and finish by the morning of Friday, July 17.
The bridges will be closed to all traffic nightly from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Nighttime access to and from Whidbey Island will be limited by ferry. The following extra ferry sailings are planned on the Mukilteo/Clinton route:
- Leaving Clinton at 9 p.m., 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 a.m.
- Leaving Mukilteo at 9:30 p.m., 2, 3 and 4 a.m.
The work is extremely weather-dependent. If rain or cool temperatures are in the forecast for that week, the closure could be postponed for a week or more. WSDOT will continue to work with the contractor crews and monitor weather forecasts to ensure the work can be successfully completed within the closure times. If the work is delayed, WSDOT will make an announcement as soon as possible.
WSDOT appreciates your understanding during the nighttime bridge closures. They are aware these closures will be difficult for people who rely on the bridge at night, but just five nights of closures will yield years and years of smooth roadway!
